Both Flanagan Farm and Walnut Hill are equally well suited to intimate gatherings and full–scale celebrations. With flexible event spaces and multiple tenting locations across each estate, we regularly host Maine wedding celebrations ranging from 50–250 guests.
At Flanagan Farm we recommend:
Up to 140 guests for a seated dinner with a dance floor inside the main barn
Up to 250 guests when incorporating tenting on the property
When tenting is included, couples may choose to host dinner beneath an elegant tent before transitioning into the barn for dancing — or to design a fully tented reception experience that accommodates both dinner and dancing seamlessly.
At Walnut Hill we recommend:
Up to 120 guests for a seated dinner with a dance floor inside the main barn.
Up to 200 guests when tenting is incorporated on the property
For larger guest counts, many couples host dinner under tent and move into the barn for an intimate, high–energy dance floor to close the evening
Layouts are thoughtfully planned to maintain flow, sight lines, and guest comfort — whether you’re planning a formal seated dinner, a tented reception, or a dynamic indoor–outdoor event.

Yes. Our estates are designed to host full weekend wedding celebrations, rather than a single evening event.
Many of our couples choose to also host:
An intimate welcome dinner for family or friends on Thursday evening. We have connections to a few amazing private chefs in the area!
A rehearsal dinner or welcome gathering on Friday. Wood–fired pizza trucks, lobster bakes, oyster carts… the stuff of “welcome to Maine” dreams!
Thoughtful wellness experiences, such a yoga, pilates, or massage, before the bustle of the wedding day begins
The wedding celebration
On–site after party (especially at Flanagan Farm, where you can choose to extend the festivities until 12am).
A farewell brunch
This approach allows loved ones traveling from near and far to feel genuinely welcomed, and it allows you to experience your wedding weekend without rushing through it. For many of our couples, the smaller, intimate moments throughout the weekend become as meaningful as the wedding itself.
Of course, some couples opt to keep the focus on the wedding day itself, with a quieter, more intimate vibe at the property on the days surrounding the main celebration. We also love and welcome this approach!
-

Yes. We require couples to engage an experienced wedding planner who is not a member of the wedding party or immediate family.
The level of planning support may vary depending on the size, scope, and complexity of your celebration. Our preferred planner list includes respected professionals offering comprehensive planning for multi–event weekends, partial planning services, and event management for more streamlined celebrations.
Incorporating a professional planner ensures:
Cohesive design and thoughtful execution
Seamless event flow across the weekend
Experienced vendor coordination
A relaxed, fully present experience for the couple and their families
-
Yes. We maintain a curated list of highly respected event professionals — including planners, caterers, bar services, rental companies, and lighting teams — selected for their professionalism, expertise, and refined sensibility.
If a couple wishes to collaborate with a vendor outside of this list, we welcome a conversation to determine approval. Our review process seeks to ensure that any outside vendor is appropriately licensed and insured, experienced in large–scale events, and comfortable operating within estate–level expectations. We hold every partner — new or established — to the same high standard of excellence as our internal team and long–standing collaborators.
-
Yes. Both Flanagan Farm and Walnut Hill offer outdoor ceremony settings nestled within mature forest groves on the property. A winding wooden boardwalk guides guests and the wedding procession into the space, creating an experience that feels natural, serene, and intentionally immersive.
In the event of inclement weather, we implement thoughtfully developed contingency plans that preserve the flow and integrity of the celebration. We approach weather planning proactively, as both estates offer indoor and tented alternatives that are equally considered and visually compelling.
-
Because both properties are rented for the full weekend, ceremony start times are flexible and may be tailored to the overall flow and priorities of your celebration.
For couples who envision an extended evening of dinner and dancing, you might choose an earlier ceremony start — for example, 3:30 p.m. — to allow extra time for the reception to unfold, leading into an extended dance party.
At Flanagan Farm, events conclude at 10:30 p.m., with guest departure by 11:00 p.m. An optional one–hour extension is available for an additional fee, allowing celebrations to continue until 11:30 p.m., with departure by midnight. With this extension, Flanagan Farm offers one of the latest sound ordinances among comparable venues in Southern Maine — creating rare flexibility for an on–site after–party.
At Walnut Hill, events conclude at 10:30 p.m., with guest departure by 11:00 p.m. These times are not extendable. Many couples choose to continue the evening in Portland, just 25 minutes away, where an array of acclaimed bars and restaurants provide a natural next setting for an after–party.
